Meet Kate

Kate McGrath is running for State Senate to fight rising costs, protect working families, and bring opportunity back to Illinois. As a businesswoman, coach, and mom, she believes Illinois is worth saving and will work to make it a place where families and businesses can thrive.

Kate's Story

Kate (Perrone) McGrath was born at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn and adopted through Catholic Charities. She grew up in Evanston and Glencoe, where she attended New Trier High School. From an early age, Kate learned the value of hard work, family, and community—principles that have guided her throughout her life. After earning a business degree and competing as a volleyball player at John Carroll University, she returned home to Illinois to build her career and raise her family.

Kate built a successful career in sales and spent 15 years managing distribution for the American Heart Association, helping an organization dedicated to saving lives reach communities across the country. Today, she works as an independent insurance agent, serving small businesses and families across Illinois. In that role, she sees every day how rising costs, higher taxes, and burdensome regulations are squeezing working families and driving opportunity out of our state. For Kate, these aren’t abstract policies—they’re the real struggles of the people she serves.

Outside of work, Kate is actively involved in her community and has spent the past 15 years coaching youth volleyball, helping young athletes grow both on and off the court. She is also a proud mom to two children. Mia is a senior at Clemson University studying sports communication and playing volleyball, and Jack is a sophomore at Eastern Kentucky University playing football.

Kate is running for State Senate because she believes Illinois is worth fighting for. She knows too many families feel like their voices don’t matter in Springfield and she’s determined to change that. With her experience as a businesswoman, coach, and mom, Kate will be a strong advocate for working families, better schools, and a stronger economy. She is committed to restoring fiscal responsibility, protecting taxpayers, and making Illinois a place where families and businesses can not only stay—but thrive.
